Reuters reports that the re-release of Michael Jackson’s Bad will be released on September 18 and will include new music, as well as a never-before-seen concert video. It is the first re-release of a full album of Jackson’s since he died in 2009.

The deluxe edition of Bad 25, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the album, which included hits like “The Way You Make Me Feel“. It will have demos and songs that didn’t make the final cut of the original album. The new songs were recorded at the same time as Bad, in Jackson’s studio.

There is also a DVD of Jackson’s performance for Prince Charles, Lady Diana and 72,000 fans at the Wembley Stadium in 1988. It was found in his personal collection, and is believed to be the only copy of the performance. It was taped for Jackson’s own personal use.

Jackson died in 2009 after an overdose of anaesthetic propofol and sedatives. His doctor, Conrad Murray, is in jail after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter inthe singer’s death.

Editor of Popdust.com and co-author of I Want My MTV, Craig Marks, said: “It continues to focus fans’ attention on his music … hopefully it brings to the fore what an incredible live performer he was and his songbook, given that ‘Bad’ was at the time considered to be very successful but was in the shadows of ‘Thriller’.”

The album won two Grammys and sold over 45 million copies. It had hit songs like “Dirty Diana”, “Smooth Criminal” and “Bad”. It was Jackson’s last collaboration with Motown producer Quincy Jones, who also produced his albums Off the Wall and Thriller (which is itself one of the highest selling albums ever).

Marks says the album shows Jackson portraying his struggles after the success of Thriller. He added: “The paranoid romantic hell he’s in, his mini snapshots of how he felt being in the public eye so nakedly, and in some ways so alone, he wasn’t able to trust many people and he felt very isolated. You can hear that in the record.”

“I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” will be re-released on June 5 in the US in preparation for the re-release of the album.
