A person may be gone, but when they are true to their craft and to the people they serve, they will never be forgotten. On April 21st, 2016 the world bled purple. Prince Rogers Nelson, the Artist formerly known as “Prince,” left this world to translate to another and millions across the globe turned everything shades of violet in tribute to the musical genius that lived among us.

As an entertainment entity who creates products and services for the entertainment industry, DSE Live is dedicated to paying tribute to artists like Prince and those who are aspiring to be heard around the world without compromising their music, their integrity or their truth. Prince inspired so many people, in both the artistic and business realms, to reveal that one can truly embody every facet of themselves without being restricted to one face, one style, one occupation and one path.

Prince’s death is untimely, as with any passing of a great artist, and leaves many with questions. He was found in the elevator of his Minnesota home and cremated with no will left to discern what to do with his $300 million estate. Since the time of his passing, the public has been alerted to a catalog of unreleased jams by a discography of nearly 30 albums have been released to the public through the streaming service TIDAL, which gained rights to exclusively stream Prince’s music in July 2015. That hasn’t stopped people from pulling out their records and CDs and loading up their mp3s to pay homage to such a dedicated person to the craft.

Prince represented his artistry to the maximum by fighting over 18 years for his right to own the masters of his music and to hold all the licenses to what was created under the Warner Bros Music Group and thus will go to who will control his estate. As the days continue, we watch and see how those will honor him through the decisions made regarding Paisely Park (the home of his record label) as well as all elements of his brand and what was created through his image.

With all of the conjecture and tactics taken in the past two weeks to speak on behalf of a man who had no problem speaking for himself, it is important to keep in mind the beautiful mysteries that have been unveiled since the time of his passing. As a creative whose taste for mystery and beauty fought for his intellectual property rights; who, as an artist, stuck to his guns and was about his business and as a man who stood up for the African-American community without applause or publicity, Prince Rogers Nelson died as a King and will forever be honored as such by DSE Live.
