I just found out that Sheryl Lee Ralph is confirmed to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Salute to the Divas revue at the Howard Theatre. Sheryl is best know as “Dena Jones” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls as well as Deidra “Dee” Mitchell on the hit UPN television series Moesha starring Brandy.
If you are looking for a different entertainment experience in Washington, DC on Wednesday, July 3rd, I would highly recommend picking up tickets to watch a new spin on The Wiz.
BIO
The Wiz was adapted from the 1975 Broadway Musical of The Sane Bane, The film follows the adventures of Dorothy, a shy Harlem, New York school teacher who finds herself magically transported to the Land of Oz, which resembles a fantasy version of New York City. Befriended by a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion, she travels through the land to seek an audience with the mysterious “Wiz,” who they say has the power to take her home.
Female impersonation at it’s best, Salute to the Divas is a revue featuring the world’s top legends. Enter the magical world of illusion as your favorite divas dazzle right before your eyes so well, you will swear they are the real thing. Hosted by the historic newly restored Howard Theatre, this show takes on a Las Vegas/Atlantic City feel and marks a milestone in history as being the first female impersonation show at the venue since the 1960’s The Jewel Box Revue. It’s also a dream come true for Divas creator, director and cast member Shi-Queeta-Lee, as seen on NBC’s America’s Got Talent (Season 4), ABC’s Ugly Betty and reality shows DCTV’s Drag City:DC and TV One’s R&B Divas.
The glitz, glamour and spectacular performances will leave you amazed, intrigued and completely blown away!
